Steep, sloped ground near a driveway is one of those problems that just sits there. You know it's wasted space, it's hard to walk on, and there's no good way to use it - but fixing it feels like a big unknown. That's exactly what we were dealing with on this one.

The before tells the whole story. A crumbling old wall, chain link fencing, and a rough slope that dropped off right next to the driveway. Nothing usable. Nothing safe. We cleared all of it out and started fresh with a plan to create a flat, functional patio space that actually works for the homeowner day to day.

We built a natural boulder retaining wall to hold the grade and create the level platform we needed. These aren't small rocks - moving and placing boulders like these takes heavy equipment and a good eye for how they'll stack and settle over time. We brought in a Kubota skid steer to handle the heavy lifting and set each course carefully so the wall sits solid. Precast stone steps were worked right into the wall face, giving a clean, natural-looking way to move between levels. Our retaining wall construction services are built around exactly this kind of problem - slopes that need real structure, not just landscaping.

For the surface, we laid a dark cobble-style paver field and finished the joints with Gator Nitro polymeric joint sand in black. That stuff locks the joints tight and keeps weeds and shifting from being an issue down the road. The paver field is edged clean, and the whole thing is wrapped with a river rock border that ties the boulders into the paved area nicely. Solid walkway installation work that connects the steps to the patio in a way that feels intentional.

What was a steep, awkward slope next to a garage is now a usable outdoor space with real structure behind it. If you've got a problem slope on your property - whether it's a safety concern, an erosion issue, or just dead space you want to put to use - this kind of work is what we do.
